Showcase of Woodcarvings -- April 26 - 28, 2024 will be held at Central Piedmont Community College, Worrell Building 1228 Elizabeth Ave., Charlotte, NC. This is the largest woodcarving show in the southeast. For more information, click here.
Bill Johnson Chip Carving Workshop -- May 16 - 18, 2024 (Leipers Fork, TN). The class will be 2 1/2 days (half day on the 18th) and will cost $180 plus the cost of the blank. To reserve your spot, please make your check out to “Leipers Fork Woodcarving Club" for $180 and mail your payment to: Joe Holt, 3650 New Highway 96 West, Franklin, TN 37064. Make sure to indicate which class you are sending payment for since there are several different classes. You will pay for the blank directly to Bill on the first day of the class. Central Indiana Woodcarvers Roundup -- June 6 - 8, 2024 (Clayton, IN) -- It is held at Martha's Orchard in Clayton, IN which is about 20 minutes east of Indianapolis and about a five hour drive from Lebanon, TN. The roundup is held indoors in an air conditioned environment. There are several instructors and you can choose any of them -- just show up and sit at their table. The registration fee is $15 for the three day event (which is dirt cheap!) and you can come and go as you please. Click here for more information.
The Doane Experience -- June 1 - 7, 2024. This event is held on the Doane University campus in Crete, Nebraska. This is a five-day workshop with a variety of instructors to choose from. Click here for complete information.
International Woodcarver's Congress -- June 10 - 15, 2024 (the workshops are Jun 10 - 14) -- is a woodcarving show with a variety of workshops (about a dozen). It will be held at the Jackson County Fairgrounds, Maquoketa, IA. Click here for more information.
Buckeye Woodcarvers Roundup -- July 17-20, 2024 (Fletcher OH). It is held at the Poor Farmers Campground -- you can either camp there or stay in a hotel. The registration fee is $20 (which is dirt cheap!) and you can come and go as you please. It is held in an open-air but covered building and they typically have about a dozen instructors. Fletcher is about 40 minutes north of Dayton. OH (about 6 hours from Lebanon, TN). Click here for complete information.
Gathering of Woodcarvers, Woodcarving Art Festival 2024 -- October 11-13, 2024 (Yorkville, IL). This gathering will be at their new venue at Lyon Farm, Rte. 71 in Yorkville, IL. There will be five instructors. The fee is $280 plus the blank. Click here for the most updated information.
Ohio Valley WoodCarvers Expo 2024 -- September 5-6, 2024 (Cold Spring, KY). This show is sponsored by the River Valley Wood Carvers of Northern KY. 40th Annual Mid-South Woodcarving Show and Competition -- November 1 - 2, 2024 (Huntsville, AL). This show is sponsored by the North Alabama Woodcarvers Association, Huntsville, AL. The show is being held at their new venue, Trinity United Methodist Church, 607 Airport Road, Huntsville AL 35802 and is open free to the public. John Engler Relief Carving Workshop -- December 2024 (exact dates TBA but typically early December) (Leipers Fork, TN). The cost is $195 for the first three days and $65 for the optional painting day plus the cost of the blank. You can sign up for all 4 days (3-day carving + 1-day painting) OR for just 3 days of carving (Dec 8-10). This is a medium relief carving class. John has a large selection of blanks for you to choose from but you can also use your own picture that John will draw up for you. Should you decide to have John draw up a personal project for you, you will need to contact John at least 30 days prior to the class to work out the details. Woodcarving Schools
Geisler-Moroder Woodcarving School -- Elbigenalp, Austria. This woodcarving school is highly recommended by every carver who has attended. Their packages include: 1 or 2 week courses of instruction with both hands-on and theoretical instruction, tools and equipment for carving are provided for your use -- no need to bring your own tools, and full room and board included in the price. They have two weeks each year, typically in May, where all courses are taught in English.
